#SessionNote # Session 0 ## Our players found themselves in a tavern called [[The Empty Net]]. [[Cadoperious (Caddy) Shortstout|Caddy]], [[Lyta of the Embereye|Lyta]], and [[Janis Hoplin|Janis]] arrived in [[Saltmarsh]] traveling as a group. Janis and Caddy had met each other working in some mines and had picked up Lyta along the way. Caddy, the day before, had got the chance to meet and speak with [[Wolfe Gearhardt]], the city's architect. After a harrowing trial by fire that included an explosive gauntlet, Caddy promised to return the next day to discuss a possible apprentice with Wolfe. Wolfe expressed his excitement at the idea (as much as he's capable of expressing excitement, that is) because the last time he had close acquaintances, they left him all alone to manage the city. [[Miralith Stormhoof|Miralith]] and [[Jacob Hargrave|Jacob]] also arrived as a group. Seemingly in a symbiotic relationship, the two of them have been traveling and also happened to find themselves. in the tavern having a conversation about [Sahuagin](https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/17003-sahuagin). Overhearing their conversation, a large tough looking Orc woman named [[Heliana]] introduced herself, produced a large tome titled *Heliana's Guide to Monster Hunting*. Enrapt in their conversation about Sahaugin; with the other three discussing their next steps, Miralith and Heliana are the first to hear it... The growl of an [owlbear](https://www.dndbeyond.com/avatars/thumbnails/30834/185/1000/1000/638063883093825018.png) just below the floor of the tavern. It explodes out of the floor and starts destroying everything as patrons flee the tavern. Our group bravely steps up to handle the danger. ## Combat highlights - Janis shows how tough she is by hanging in there after a massively damaging attack - Caddy shows his ingenuity casting faery fire, making the monster easier to hit - Shouts of "HE'S GOT A GUN" ring in the air just before Caddy takes a shot with his pistol. - Jacob brandishes his heavy crossbow missing his first volley but eventually connecting - he 100% landed his flex on Heliana though, thoroughly impressing the Orc. - Miralith throws fire (literally) and keeps Janis up after the major hit - Lyta, brandishing her longsword and a short sword, got the killing blow dropping the owlbear to the ground. Heliana congratulates the group on their win, expressing how impressed she was that everyone meshed together so well despite being strangers. As she pulls out an *extremely* large carving knife, she announces that this isn't an owlbear, but a wild shaped druid. Some words are exchanged after the city guard show up and the group finds out the druid has been wanted for quite some time and has been terrorizing establishments across Saltmarsh protesting pickles and beer.... apparently. The group learns that Heliana is part of a [[Monster Hunters Guild|monster hunting guild]] and she invites them to follow here to her guild hall where they can sign up for a trial hunt to see if they'd be interested. After a huddle to consider their options everyone agrees. Heliana gathers everyone a drink of something she called a [[Port Ale]] and tells them to simply walk through the door. ## What happens next?
